Nunavut Holidays - The Inuit of Nunavut Canada
The Inuit of Nunavut

Nunavut holidays. The province of Nunavut was introduced in Canada in 1999 for the Inuit. At nearly two million square kilometres, there are no roads to this Arctic wilderness with small isolated settlements and more caribou than people!

Around 5000 years ago, the Inuit and their great ancestors migrated to Nunavut. Later on, western explorers came in search of the Northwest Passage and whalers and traders came in search of wealth. The Inuit helped and guided these newcomers, helping them survive in the new land. In Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit people, Nunavut means 'our land'.
