Skagway grew overnight from one log cabin to a town of 20,000 souls, in the winter of 1897-98. The Gold Rush came and went, leaving a desolate trail of corruption and gun-fighting desperados. The railway followed soon after and you can still ride the White Pass and Yukon Route railway today.
Surrounded by snow-capped mountains at the end of Tracy Arm Fjord, Sawyer Glacier is home to some wonderful wildlife. Seabirds, seals, sea lions and porpoises all have their home in the region.
